Betty Fielden was born in 1861 in Todmorden, Yorkshire – the daughter of Crossley Fielden, a cotton manufacturer, and Jane Dennett.
The family came to New Zealand in the 1880s and when Betty signed the suffrage petition they were living in Jones St, Dunedin – Betty was working as a tailoress.
She died on 22 May 1933 and is buried with her sister and brother in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
