Biographical information provided by Linda McGregor for the He Tohu exhibition:
Charlotte Thompson Maxwell was born on 23 February 1871 at Waikouaiti, the eldest child of George and Jane Cowie Clark Maxwell (who also signed). Charlotte had moved to Wellington to work by 1905, and in 1911 moved to Masterton. By 1928 Charlotte was back in Waikouaiti where she remained until her death on 23 October 1965. She was 95 years old. Charlotte never married.
