Elizabeth Catherine Tregoning was born on 2 November 1869 in Waimate, South Canterbury, New Zealand to Michael and Mary Tregoning.
In the 1893 Waitaki electoral roll Elizabeth was listed as a Spinster living in Waimate.
Elizabeth married George James Allen Shackleton, son of Jacob Shackleton and Eliza Slack in 1896.
Elizabeth and George had three children; Allan James Shackleton born 1897, Ronald George Shackleton born 1899 and Bernice Elizabeth Shackleton born 1901.
From 1905-06 the electoral rolls record Elizabeth and George living in Waimate. George is a Draper. From 1914 their address is Queen Street, Waimate.
Ronald Shackleton went on to become a General Practitioner in Waimate.
Elizabeth died on 4 January 1955 age 84 years and is buried in the Waimate Lawn cemetery, Presbyterian Section, Plot 001418
George died on 8 March 1962 and is buried in the Waimate Lawn cemetery, Presbyterian Section, Plot 1419.
Daughter Bernice was awarded a QSM in 1986 for her work as a Journalist and involvement with CORSO, women’s affairs and local body affairs.
