Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Elizabeth Garry was born about 1858 in Scotland – the daughter of Alexander Garry, a sawyer, and Margaret Thomson. (See 137 Margaret Garry)

She emigrated to Otago in 1858 on the Strathfieldsaye with her parents and they settled in Port Chalmers.

Her father died in 1861 and when her brother took up land in the Owaka district she moved there with her mother.

When Elizabeth signed the suffrage petition she was living with her mother at, nearby, Tahatika.

She moved to Dunedin with her mother in the 1910s - and she died there on 15 November 1948.

She is buried with her brother in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
