Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley.

Elsie Marie Eberhardt was born about 1846 in Denmark.

In 1872 Elsie accompanied by her husband Frederick Wilheim and their daughter Catherine (See 142 C Searle) emigrated to Otago on the “Palmerston”.

They had a further three children and Frederick spent some time mining in Central Otago and working on the construction of the Dunedin to Port Chalmers railway line before he was employed as a baker in Dunedin.

He eventually bought the business which was conducted in partnership with their daughter Catherine’s husband Thomas Searle.

When Elsie signed the suffrage petition they were living in Castle Street.

Elsie died at her home on 19 July 1911 and Frederick died in 1933 – they are buried together in the Northern Cemetery.
