Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley
Elizabeth Ann Robins was born in 1841 in Burton Bradstock, Dorset, England – the daughter of James Robins, a Greenwich pensioner, and Ann Weakley.
She married Robert Henry Warren Scadden, a hemp dresser, in Bridport in 1869 and they had a son in 1872 who died in infancy.
Elizabeth and Robert emigrated to Otago in 1873 on the Allahabad and they settled in the Catlins.
Robert worked as a sawyer and they had five children.
When Elizabeth signed the suffrage petition they were living near Owaka and they had a farm.
On 31 December 1897 the family left Owaka and travelled to settle in Pocatello, Idaho, USA where at least one of their sons was living.
They 'bought a small piece of land and a cow and expect to make a comfortable living'.
Elizabeth died on 15 April 1899, she is buried with their son Walter in the Mountain View Cemetery, Pocatello.
James re-married and he died in Pocatello in 1935.
