Edith grew up in Dunedin but after her father’s death in 1890 she spent time in Palmerton.

When she signed the suffrage petition she was living with her widowed mother in Palmerston working as a music teacher.

They moved back to Dunedin for a time before her mother died in Christchurch in 1900.

Edith died in Wellington on November 21st 1901. She is buried with her mother in the Linwood Cemetery, Christchurch.
