Elizabeth Dickson Johnston was born in 1861 in New Zealand – the daughter of Adam Dickson Johnston, a farmer, and Agnes Rankin.

Elizabeth signed the suffrage petition in Gore, as did her cousin Margaret. (See 76 Margaret S Johnston)

Elizabeth married farmer Peter Thomas Aitken on 3 October 1894 and they lived in the Waikaka Valley.

She died on 24 February 1896 and is buried with her parents in the Warepa Cemetery.
