Elizabeth Jane Best was born in 1853 in Liverpool, England.
She married chemist Edward Davies/Davis in Liverpool in 1878, and the following year they emigrated to Otago on the Timaru.
They lived in Waikouaiti where Edward ran a chemist’s shop and where Elizabeth signed the suffrage petition. They had two children, one who died in infancy.
Elizabeth died at Dunedin on November 10th 1920 and Edward died at Waikouaiti in 1937. They are buried together in the St John’s Anglican Cemetery, Waikouaiti.
