Notes:

It is likely that Elizabeth Manchester is the mother of Emily Manchester who signed Sheet 231 of the Petition. If so, she came to New Zealand from Kent, England with her family on the ship Mystery, arriving in Lyttleton in 1858 before moving to Timaru. In 1869 her daughter Emily married Henry Manchester, the son of a railway labourer from Lincolnshire. At the same time Elizabeth, now a widow, married Henry’s older brother William.
