Elizabeth Lonney was born about 1848 in County Leitrim, Ireland.

She came to New Zealand and she married William Brown McPhee, a farmer, in 1866.

They had six children and when Elizabeth signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Owaka.

William died in 1914 at their daughter’s home in Timaru and Elizabeth died on 14 October 1916 in Owaka.

They are both buried in the Owaka Cemetery.
