Elizabeth McLay was born about 1855 in Waikouaiti, north of Dunedin.
She married Donald Sutherland on February 2nd 1876 in Waikouaiti. They had eight children.
Elizabeth signed the suffrage petition in Waikouaiti. A few years later they moved to Dunedin.
Donald died in Dunedin in 1905 when their youngest child was eight years old. He is buried in the Southern Cemetery.
Elizabeth died at her home on April 12th 1941. She is buried with their son in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
