Helen/Ellen Ellis was born in 1868 in Dunedin – the daughter of John Ellis, a blacksmith, Ellen Paton. (See 63 Mrs Ellis)

When Ellen signed the suffrage petition she was living with her family in Duke St, Dunedin working as a bootfitter.

She did not marry and she died at the family home in Duke St on 28 August 1957.

Ellen is buried in the family grave in the Northern Cemetery.
