Ellen Templeton was born about 1861 in Kirkestown, County Down, Ireland – the youngest daughter of William Templeton.
She came to New Zealand and she married George Harle, a farmer, at her uncle’s home at Catlin’s River on 24 April 1882.
They had five children and when Ellen signed the suffrage petition the family were living in the Owaka district.
In the 1920s they retired to Dunedin where George died in 1933 and Ellen died on 17 November 1941, they are buried in the Owaka Cemetery.
