Ellen Priscilla Bennett was born about 1845 in England, she emigrated to New Zealand in the early 1860s and married Samuel Hunter in 1866.
Samuel was a miner and the family lived in Wetherstones near Lawrence in Central Otago.
They had 11 children and moved to Dunedin in the late 1880s.
When Ellen signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Macandrew Rd, South Dunedin and Samuel was working as a labourer.
Samuel died in 1913 and Ellen died on 29 February 1928, they are buried together in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
