Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Ellen Agnes Kelly was born about 1856 in Kilkenny, Ireland.

She emigrated to Otago in 1874 on the Carnatic and she married Edward Jacobson, a bushman and sawmiller, the following year.

They had 16 children, five who died in infancy, and when Ellen signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Glenomaru in South Otago.

Edward died at their home 'Rose Villa' in 1905 and Ellen died on 23 June 1932 at the Little Sisters’ of the Poor in Dunedin.

They are buried in the family grave in the Romahapa Cemetery.
