Ellen Ford was born about 1858 in Ireland – the daughter of Walter Ford and Ellen.

She emigrated to Lyttleton with her parents in 1861 on the Rhea Sylvia.

Ellen married George Leslie, a seaman, on 24 August 1881 in Dunedin. They had 11 children and lived in Dunedin.

When Ellen signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Filleul Street.

George later worked as a telegraph lineman & a fireman.

George died in 1930 and Ellen died on 18 July 1937, they are buried together in the Northern Cemetery.
