Elsie CANNELL was born on 3 June 1871 at Richmond, Nelson. She was one of 14 or 15 children born to Rev. William Douglas CANNELL and Sarah Anne (Annie) née GEORGE. Elsie married Harry SUTCLIFFE: 'at the Wesleyan Church, Opunake, on Thursday, August 22nd, by the Rev. Wm. Cannell, father of the bride, Harry, youngest son of Captain Sutcliffe, Marton, to Elsie, third daughter of the Rev. Wm. Cannell, Opunake.'

Elsie and Harry SUTCLIFFE had five children. Harry became a Draper. He died at Marton in about 1940. Elsie died at Hamilton on 17 May 1951. Elsie and Harry SUTCLIFFE are buried together at the Anglican Cemetery, Marton, Rangitikei.
