Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Emma Kidman was born about 1848, probably in England.

She married Frederick Doose, from Denmark, in London in 1873 and the following year they boarded the Wild Deer bound for Otago.

They lived in Dunedin where Frederick worked as a quarryman and when Emma signed the suffrage petition they were living in The Glen.

Frederick died in 1905 and Emma re-married on 2 November 1908 to widower Frederick Gough.

Emma died at her home the following year on 1 December and Frederick died in 1922 – they are buried with Frederick in the Southern Cemetery.
