Emma Turner was born in 1868 in Birmingham, England – the daughter of Frederick Turner, a tinsmith, and Mary Eliza Edwards. (See 142 Mrs E Turner)
She came to New Zealand with her family as an infant and when she signed the suffrage petition Emma was living with her family in Leith St, Dunedin working as a tailoress.
Emma married farmer William Russell in 1907 and they had one son.
They lived at Geraldine Downs where William died in 1918.
Emma moved to live in Geraldine where she died on 27 July 1949 - she is buried in the Geraldine Cemetery with William.
