Esther Gurr

Biographical information provided by Peter Gerrie for the He Tohu exhibition:

Esther Gurr (nee Tomkins) was born in 1842. She married Edward Gurr in Ticehurst, Kent (England) in December 1868, and emigrated to New Zealand sometime after. They had eight children, all of whom were born in Hokitika and Wellington before the couple moved to Whanganui. It was here that Edward died in 1890, and where Esther signed the Petition.

Esther continued living in Whanganui until her death on 15 September 1928, aged 72.
