Harriet Elizabeth Milsom was born in 1870 in Christchurch – the daughter of Henry Joseph Milsom, an aerated water manufacturer, and Harriet Elizabeth Milsom.
Her mother died in 1872 and her father re-married in 1875.
Harriet signed the suffrage petition at Arthur St, Wellington.
She later lived in Christchurch then in Dunedin.
She married widower Robert Newton Vanes, a company manager, in 1929.
Robert died in 1944 and Harriet died on 19 November 1954 in Dunedin – they were both cremated and their ashes were scattered.
