Helen Taylor Valentine was born in 1869 in New Zealand. The daughter of Archibald Valentine, a county engineer, and Mary Maxwell.

When Helen signed the suffrage petition she was living in Waikouaiti.

She married James Ebenezer Hunter, a widower and farmer, in 1920.

James died at their home in 1934. He is buried in the Waikouaiti Cemetery with his first wife.

Helen died on July 12th 1960 in Dunedin. She was cremated and her ashes were scattered.
