Isabella Pearson was born in New Zealand about 1853 the daughter of Robert Pearson, a farmer, and Elizabeth Gibson.
She married John Edward Goodwin, a storekeeper, on 11 January 1872 in Queenstown.
They had nine children, one who died in infancy, and when Isabella signed the suffrage petition they were living in Palmerston.
They moved to Christchurch in the 1900s where John died in 1913.
Isabella died on 19 May 1938 in Wellington, she was cremated.
