Isabella Shand was born in Victoria, Australia in 1859, the daughter of Robert Shand and Christina McGregor.
She sailed for Otago with her family in 1865 on the Tararua and they settled in Waikouaiti, north of Dunedin.
Isabella married William Archibald Russell on May 24th 1880 in the Waikouaiti parish. They had four children.
Isabella signed the suffrage petition in Waikouaiti.
William died in 1918 and Isabella died at her home on March 26th 1935. They are buried together in the Waikouaiti Cemetery.
