Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Jane/Jean Robertson was born about 1859 in Scotland.

She emigrated to New Zealand about 1878 and she married William Crossan, a baker, on 10 September 1880 in the Roxburgh Parish.

They had nine children and lived for a time in Roxburgh before moving to Owaka where Jane signed the suffrage petition.

William was declared bankrupt in 1897 after which the family went to live at Coal Creek near Roxburgh.

William died in 1922 in Invercargill and Jane died on 15 December 1932 at her son’s home in Dunedin.

They are buried in the family grave in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
