Jane E Clayton was born Jane Elizabeth Glover on 21 August 1836, Hobart, Tasmania, Australia to Henry Glover and Elizabeth Mary Hayes.

Jane married Richard Clayton on 25 January 1855 at Morven, Tasmania, Australia.

Jane and Robert had seven children; Henry Richard Clayton born 1856 and Ada Elizabeth Clayton born 1858, born in Tasmania, Australia; Frederick William Clayton born 1860, Cecilia Mary born 1862, Eva Charlotte Clayton born 1864, Clara Louisa Clayton born 1867 and Richard Albert Clayton born 1869 born in New Zealand.

Richard died on 5 May 1869 age 38 years and is buried in the Oamaru Old cemetery, Block 1, Plot 15. His death notice states that he was the fourth son of the late Henry Clayton of Wickford, Tasmania, Australia.

Richard’s death left Jane to bring up seven children on her own.

From 1896 until the time of her death Jane was residing in Waimate.

Jane died on 18 September 1910 age 74 years and is buried in the Waimate Old cemetery, Methodist section, Plot 000340. Also buried in the same plot is Richard Albert Clayton, 15 years who died on 17 February 1885.
