Janet Morgan Chalmers was born in 1871 at Milburn, South Otago – the daughter of William Chalmers, a blacksmith, and Janet Gray. (See 139 Mrs W Chalmers)

Janet signed the suffrage petition in Milburn.

She married Lachlan McLean, a farmer, on 11 November 1896 at her parents’ home, the ceremony was followed by a dance in a neighbour’s barn and a supper.

They had two daughters and lived on the Taieri Plain.

Lachlan died at their home at North Taieri in 1925 and Janet died on 4 April 1939 in Dunedin, they are buried together in the East Taieri Cemetery.
