Biographical information provided by Linda McGregor for the He Tohu exhibition:
Jessie Forbes (nee Cameron) was born in Scotland around 1851 and later emigrated to New Zealand. In 1884 she married James Andrew Forbes, a bookseller who was also from Scotland. Their son John Donald Forbes was born on 21 May 1886 and served in the First World War.
It appears Jessie has signed the Petition twice, as identical signatures appear at the top of Sheets 103 and 109.
By 1928 the couple had moved to Oamaru, and James died there in 1929, aged 75. Jessie died on 11 July 1941, aged 90.
