Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Louisa Ada Williams (later known as Bryant) was born in 1869 in London, England – the daughter of Thomas Bryant Williams, a carman, and Jane Selby.

She emigrated to Otago with her family in 1872 on the Hydaspes and they settled in Dunedin.

Louisa married Robert McLean, a carpenter, at her parents’ home in Dunedin on 12 November 1890 and they had four children.

When Louisa signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Owaka.

In later life they retired to Dunedin where Louisa  died on 21 September 1929 and Robert died in 1940, they are buried in the family grave in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
