Louisa Burnside was born in 1861 in New Zealand – the daughter of John Burnside and Jessie.
She married William Harry Valpy jnr., a farmer, on 1 November 1888 at Vauxhall, Andersons Bay, Dunedin.
They had five children and lived at Glenorchy, at the head of Lake Wakatipu where Louisa signed the suffrage petition.
She died on 11 November 1897 when her youngest child was just an infant.
She was 'endeared to all for her kind and amiable disposition', Louisa is buried in the Glenorchy Cemetery.
William re-married in 1905 and had a further two children. He died in Christchurch in 1932 and is buried with his second wife in the Bromley Cemetery.
