Margaret Stoupe was born about 1838 in County Down, Ireland, the daughter of Hugh Stoupe.
She married William McClune on April 20th 1861 in Newtownards, County Down, Ireland. They had at least five children before they emigrated to Otago in 1874 on the Tweed with three of their children.
They settled in Waikouaiti where Margaret signed the suffrage petition and Joseph worked for the railway service.
Joseph retired on superannuation in 1907, and a few months later he died.
Margaret died on August 20th 1910 at Waikouaiti. She is buried with Joseph in the family grave in the Waikouaiti Cemetery.
