Margaret Blackwood was born about 1854 in Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, Scotland – the daughter of William Blackwood, a miner, and Martha McIndoe. (See 51 Martha Blackwood)
Her family emigrated to Otago on the Alpine in 1859 and settled in Caversham, Dunedin.
Margaret married Archibald Lawson, a hay and corn merchant, on 9 June 1875 at Caversham, they had four children before Archibald died in October of 1882.
Their six-month-old son died the following month.
Margaret married George Scott in 1889, it is not known what happened to George.
Margaret ran a successful boarding house in Papatowai in the Catlins, she died on Christmas Eve 1937 and is buried in the Owaka Cemetery.
Her obituary says 'she was a woman of strong character with many admiral qualities which endeared her to all with whom she came in contact.'
