Margaret Colvin Anderson was born on 8 April 1853 at Lerwick, Shetland Islands – the daughter of Hosea Anderson, a draper and spirit dealer, and Barbara Colvin.
She came to New Zealand with her family in the 1870s and they settled in Dunedin.
When Margaret signed the suffrage petition she was living in the family home in Brook St, Dunedin.
She later moved to Melrose, North Shore, Auckland with her sister Mary.
She died there on 4 October 1906 and is buried with her sister in the O’Neills Point Cemetery.
