Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Margaret was born about 1852 in Glenlyon, Perthshire, Scotland.

She married John Fisher Campbell, a spirit dealer, about 1880 and they had five children before they emigrated to Auckland in 1889 on the Arawa.

They had a further two children after their arrival and spent about three years in Sawyers Bay near Dunedin before moving to Owaka in 1890 where Margaret signed the suffrage petition.

In later life they lived in nearby Cannibal Bay where they had a farm before retiring to Owaka.

John died in Owaka in 1929 and Margaret died on 21 March 1941 at her daughter’s home in Owaka. They are buried in the Owaka Cemetery.

Her obituary said she 'was a devout member of the Presbyterian Church, and a helper in every good cause'.
