Mary Ann McKillop was born was born in 1871 in London, the daughter of James McKillop and Ellen Meaker.
She emigrated to Otago with her family in 1876 on the Corona, where her father worked as a baker in Palmerston, north of Dunedin.
When Mary signed the suffrage petition she was working as a saleswoman, presumably in her father’s shop.
She married Joseph McIvor, a miner, in 1900. They had 6 children.
The family lived at first in Huntly, before moving to Cambridge where Joseph worked as a contractor.
Mary died on July 27th 1960, and Joseph died later that year in November. They are buried together in the Hautapu Cemetery.
