Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley
Mary Ann North was born about 1854.
She married George Thomas Smith, an engine driver, in Dunedin on 30 November 1875.
They had eight children, three who died in infancy who are buried in the Northern Cemetery.
When Mary signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Walker St, Dunedin.
After the late 1890s the family is hard to trace and where they went is unclear.
