Mary Morrison Sanderson was born in 1867 in New Zealand – the daughter of James Sanderson and Mary Ann.

She married William Clarkson, a railway guard, on December 11th 1890 in Dunedin.

They had 4 children and when Mary signed the suffrage petition the family were living at Palmerston, north of Dunedin.

They moved back to Dunedin in 1900 then to Invercargill where Mary died on October 28th 1912.

William remarried in 1915. He died in 1935 and is buried with Mary and his second wife in the family grave in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
