Mary was born about 1854 in Ireland.
In 1874 she emigrated to Otago on the William Davie with her husband Alexander, a railway labourer, and their daughter Mary.
They had a further 3 children after arrival and they lived in Invercargill, Orepuki, and Clinton. The family were living in Palmerston, Alexander working as an engine driver for the railways, when Mary signed the suffrage petition.
Mary died on May 27th 1914 at Dunedin Hospital and Alexander died in Invercargill in 1932. They are buried together in the Andersons Bay Cemetery, Dunedin.
