Mary Jane Fricker was born on 21 March 1847 in St Saviour, Jersey, Channel Islands – the daughter of Edward Fricker and Mary Haggie.
She came to New Zealand with her family and she married George Geddes in 1864.
They had eight children, one who died in early childhood, and when Mary signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Georgetown in North Otago.
George died at their home in 1924 aand Mary died on 1 January 1926 at her daughter’s home in Dunedin, they are buried together in the Georgetown Cemetery.
