Mary Grealis was born about 1866, possibly in Ireland.
She married Thomas Wallace, a farm labourer, in 1892 in New Zealand.
They had a son in 1893. When he was 6 months old Mary caught influenza “which resulted in inflammation of the lungs. She was greatly respected by all her acquaintances”.
Mary died on December 10th 1893 and is probably buried in the Palmerston Cemetery.
At the time of her death Thomas was also gravely ill and for a time was not expected to live.
He remarried in 1897, and died in Invercargill in 1913. He is buried in the Palmerston Cemetery.
