Agnes Galt was born Agnes Dickie in 1840 in Ayr in Scotland. Her parents were David and Eliza. Her family immigrated to New Zealand in 1863. She married Allan Galt, who came from the same region in Scotland, in the same year (1863). Agnes had 12 children between 1865 and 1881, two of them being twins.
They lived together on a farm of 500 acres called Kyledale. She died in 1895 at age 55, survived by all but three of her children and her husband.
