Mary Ann Mitchell was born about 1837.

She & Charles Callaghan had five children between 1863 and 1872 in New Zealand although they did not marry until 1877.

Charles died of consumption in 1883 and when Mary signed the suffrage petition she was living with her children in Blacks Road, North East Valley, Dunedin. 

Mary died on 26 June 1901 – she is buried with Charles in the family grave in the Northern Cemetery.
