Mrs Ellen Foss was born Ellen Carmody c. 1846 in Kerry, Ireland
Ellen came to New Zealand on the ship Blue Jacket which sailed from Plymouth on 15 June 1867 and arrived in Lyttelton on 30 August 1867. The passenger list records that Ellen was 21 years of age, a Domestic Servant, single and that she was from Kerry.
Ellen Carmody married Ureo Foss in 1869 in Waimate, South Canterbury.
Ellen and Ureo (aka James) had five children – Abel James born 1870; Kate born in 1872; Annie born in 1875; James born in 1878 and Ellen born in 1882
Ellen died on 6 November 1922 age 81 years and is buried in the Taihape cemetery. Ellen’s husband James died on 2 April 1912 age 77 years and is also buried in the Taihape cemetery.
