Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Sarah Dick was born about 1849 in Scotland.

She emigrated to New Zealand about 1867 and she married Francis Tubman, a punt operator, on 6 December 1867 in Dunedin.

They had seven children and lived in Roxburgh and Beaumont before moving to Owaka where they had a farm and where Sarah signed the suffrage petition.

In the 1910s they retired to Balclutha where Francis died in 1913.

Sarah died on 16 March 1939 at her sons’ home in Papatowai near Owaka.

They are buried with one of their daughters in the Northern Cemetery, Dunedin.
