Emily Reeves was born about 1866 in England.
She emigrated to New Zealand about 1875 and she married William Stevenson Gillespie, a carter, on 15 January 1890 in Dunedin.
They had five children and when Emily signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Kelvin Grove, North East Valley, Dunedin.
Emily died at her daughter’s home in Dunedin on 5 January 1937 and William died the following year, they are buried together in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
