Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Christina Gilchrist was born about 1815 in Sutherlandshire, Scotland.

She married George Gordon, a shepherd, on 6 December 1835 in Kildonan, Bute and they had seven children before they emigrated to New Zealand on the Strathallan arriving in January 1859. They lived, at first, at Pareora Station before moving to Waimate in the mid-1860s.

George died in 1890 and when Christina signed the suffrage petition she was still in Waimate.

Christina died on 4 February 1899 – she is buried with George in the Waimate Old Cemetery.
