Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Christina Lowe was born about 1861 in Tasmania, Australia – the daughter of James Cox, a schoolmaster, and Janet Smart Jaffray. (See 98 Mrs J Lowe)

She came to New Zealand with her family in the 1870s and she married James Cox, a dairyman, on 24 December 1883 in Dunedin.

They had three children and, in 1892, the family moved to Owaka where Christina signed the suffrage petition.

They did not stay long in the country and were back in Dunedin by 1897.

James died in Dunedin Hospital in 1911 and Christina died on 27 August 1947, they are buried in the family grave in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
