Jane Sutherland was born about 1851 in Glasgow, Scotland.
She married Hugh McCorkindale, an edge tool finisher, on 15 July 1870 in Glasgow and they had two daughters before they emigrated to Otago in 1874 on the Tweed.
They settled in Dunedin and had a further eight children, three who died in infancy.
When Jane signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Duncan St, South Dunedin.
Hugh died in 1910 and Jane died on 27 September 1942, they are buried together in the Southern Cemetery.
