Lydia Breach was born in 1865 in Bromley, Kent, England – the daughter of Levi Breach, a coachman, and Ann Susannah Edwards.

Her mother died in 1868 and her father re-married in 1873.

The family emigrated to Wellington in 1875 on the Bear and they settled in Hokitika.

Lydia married Henry Jones in Hokitika in 1889 and they had four sons.

When Lydia signed the suffrage petition they were farming at Tahatika near Owaka.

Henry died in Dunedin Hospital in 1927 and Lydia died on 20 January 1949, they are buried in the Owaka Cemetery.
